Equality Objectives (2025–2028)
Equality Objective 1: Celebrate and promote diversity across the school community
Vision:
Applefields School will actively celebrate diversity across all areas of school life, including the curriculum, enrichment and whole-school events. Drawing on our inclusive ethos, we aim to create a culture where every individual, regardless of protected characteristics, SEND profile, communication needs, or socio-economic background, feels recognised, valued, and respected.
Equality Objective 2: Prevent and address all forms of discriminatory language, attitudes, or behaviour
Vision:
We will take consistent action to prevent and challenge discriminatory or prejudicial behaviour, including racism, homophobia, sexism, ableism and any form of bullying. Applefields School will promote a safe, supportive environment where students learn about respect, empathy, and positive communication, and where staff model and reinforce inclusive language and behaviour.
Equality Objective 3: Support strong progress and meaningful post-16 pathways for all learners
Vision:
We are committed to ensuring every young person makes strong progress from their individual starting point and is well prepared for adulthood. This includes personalised support to access appropriate further education, vocational programmes, employment opportunities and community-based pathways. We will work to remove barriers for students with complex needs, or disadvantaged backgrounds, ensuring equitable outcomes for all.
Equality Objective 4: Ensure accessibility and inclusion across the school environment and all communication
Vision:
Applefields School will continue to develop an accessible, safe, and inclusive physical environment that meets the diverse needs of our learners. We will also ensure that communication, whether written, digital, or visual, is clear, accessible and inclusive for students, families, and staff including those who require alternative or augmentative communication methods.
Equality Objective 5: Embed adaptive, inclusive and personalised teaching strategies across the curriculum
Vision:
We will equip staff with the skills, understanding, and professional development needed to deliver high-quality, adaptive teaching for learners with a wide range of SEND profiles. Our approach will ensure that all students can engage, participate and make progress in a curriculum designed to meet their individual needs.
Equality Objective 6: Promote a diverse, inclusive workforce through equitable recruitment and development practices
Vision:
Applefields School will strengthen recruitment, induction and professional development processes to support a workforce that reflects the diversity of our wider community. We believe that a diverse staff team enriches our school, promotes varied perspectives and provides meaningful role models for our students. We will ensure that all staff feel valued, included and supported to thrive.
